PIMS (Pennsylvania Information Management System) is the Pennsylvania Department of Education's statewide longitudinal data system for improving data capabilities by enhancing school districts' capacities to meet student-level data reporting requirements and provide robust decision-making support tools.

PIMS is used to collect educational services and special education services information provided by Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 for our 35 public school districts, 5 area vocational-technical schools, 2 charter schools and approximately 81 non-public schools.

The Pennsylvania State Data Center and Applied Research Laboratory of the Pennsylvania State University (PSU) performs data validation on files submitted to PIMS throughout each school year.  The PSU Data Center works with Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 to resolve any issues and submits the data to the US Department of Education.
