    Appalachia IU 8 is conducting the Advanced Training for Outstanding Mathematics and Science (ATOMS) Scholars Program again this summer. These are hands-on, high level, intensive science and mathematics experiences for very able mathematics and science students who will be completing grades 2 through 8 this school year.
     
    Check the calendar below for the 2017 timeline.
     
    Listed below is some important information concerning deadlines and changes that have taken place in the program.

    •    Costs are as follows:
       o    A three-day mini-Day Camp Program (15 hours of instruction) for $115 - 8:45 am - 2:20 pm
       o    A five-day basic-Day Camp Program (30 hours of instruction) for $155 - 8:25 am - 2:50 pm
       o    Costs can be subsidized by financial aid if appropriate paperwork is provided by the family and scholarships are received from area businesses.

    •    The original online application form should be completed by the parent. Following this, we will communicate with the recommended teacher for eligibility input. Teachers will be contacted and strongly encouraged to write specific comments regarding the student's eligibility for this program. In many cases final determination of acceptance into the program is based on the teacher recommendation. Comments are always confidential.

    •    If the parent is requesting financial aid, proof of income must be scanned and emailed to the Financial Aid email address or postal mailed to:

    This proof can be a copy of the student's lunch program form indicating his/her eligibility for free or reduced lunches or a copy of the parents' completed 2015 or 2016 income tax form.

    •    Selection for this program is competitive and receiving an original application does not guarantee admission. Class size is limited to a maximum of 15 students and the number of classes at each site depends on teacher availability.
     
    Students receive written notification of their status in the program no later than April 15. Upon receipt of the acceptance letter, payment should be made online via the IU8 registration/payment system. All fees must be paid by May 7, 2017, though payments from alternate students will be extended until late May.
