Interscholastic Reading Competition

last modified 2008-11-18 08:11

During the fall and spring of each school year, Appalachia Intermediate Unit sponsors the Interscholastic Reading Competitions.

These competitions are held in the evening at a high school within the IU 8 area. Teams of students from grades five through twelve have the opportunity to compete against other teams to see who can correctly answer the most questions about books they have read. Each team is supplied with a list of books for both the fall and spring competitions that they are expected to read. Approximately 50% of the participating teams receive First, Second, or Third Place Ribbons during the evenings awards ceremony. Last year we had over 1,500 students participate in this two day event.

The Fall 2008 Reading Competition originally scheduled for November 18, 2008 at Richland High School has been postponed until Tuesday, December 9, 2008. Please contact Joan Conway (814-940-0223 ext 393) for more information.
