Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training
Educational Programs & Services

Nonviolent Crisis Intervention is a safe, non-harmful behavior management system designed to help human service workers provide for the best possible care and welfare of assaultive, disruptive, or out-of-control persons even during the most violent moment The training focuses on prevention, de-escalation, personal safety and physical intervention.

Examples where nonviolent crisis intervention may be used include correction facilities, educational facilities, and mental health facilities. The overriding concern in applying nonviolent interventions is to provide for the care, welfare, safety and security of all persons involved. The IU provides a 12-hour training course leading to a one-year certification in nonviolent crisis intervention. The IU also provides a 3 hour refresher course required annually to maintain certification. This program is offered to all audiences for a nominal fee- (no cost to parents).
