Hearing Impaired Support Program
Educational Programs & Services

Services available through the HIS Program:

  • In-home intervention for infants and preschoolers and their families.
  • Parent training and support.
  • Individualized instruction in schools by certified teachers of the hearing impaired.
  • Consultation with school personnel about hearing loss, assistive technology, and communication methods.
  • Assistance to school nurses with hearing screenings in the schools.
  • Individual hearing testing and amplification system evaluation.
  • Amplification system loaner program.
  • Sign language interpreters.
  • School-to-adult life transition services.

To refer a student with a hearing loss for HIS Services:

  • Complete a HIS referral form.
  • Attach proof of hearing loss from an audiologist and/or ear-nose-throat physcian.
  • If feasible, attach a "permission to evaluate" signed by the parent.
