Services available through the HIS Program:
- In-home intervention for infants and preschoolers and their families.
- Parent training and support.
- Individualized instruction in schools by certified teachers of the hearing impaired.
- Consultation with school personnel about hearing loss, assistive technology, and communication methods.
- Assistance to school nurses with hearing screenings in the schools.
- Individual hearing testing and amplification system evaluation.
- Amplification system loaner program.
- Sign language interpreters.
- School-to-adult life transition services.
To refer a student with a hearing loss for HIS Services:
- Complete a HIS referral form.
- Attach proof of hearing loss from an audiologist and/or ear-nose-throat physcian.
- If feasible, attach a "permission to evaluate" signed by the parent.
