Educational Programs & Services

Appalachia Intermediate Unit 8 provides programs and services to assist local school districts in meeting the educational needs of gifted students in grades K-12. These programs and services are designed to enrich, augment or support the regular school program in order to better meet the educational needs of gifted students. Gifted education programs and services are provided at district request and include:

Special Classes for Gifted Students

Types of Classes:

  • Enrichment
  • Content Based

Curriculum: Regular education curriculum is differentiated for gifted students. Differentiation is achieved by modifying:

  • Content (Enrichment and/or Acceleration)
  • Process (Productive, Complex, Abstract, and Higher Order Thinking)
  • Product (Multi-Dimensional, Real-World)
  • Learning Environment (Student Centered, Beyond the Classroom)

Type of Instruction: Individualized instruction based on interests, abilities and identified needs as identified in the student's Gifted Individualized Education Plan (GIEP).
