Parenting Skills
Educational Programs & Services > Cresson Secure Treatment Unit

The design of this course gives students the knowledge necessary to raise children in a positive family environment. This program utilizes “PAL (Parents and the Law)” and “Baby Think It Over” in the teaching process.

By utilizing the "Baby Think It Over Program" and "Baby Think It Over Doll" students are taught how to care for infants and young children in a kind, positive, effective, and non-abusive manner. All aspects of parenting skills are covered in order to help alleviate problems our students may have now as parents or in the future.

Street Law’s innovative program, Parents and the Law (PAL), aims at strengthening families and preventing the growing incidence of child abuse and neglect through law-related education. The PAL Program provides an opportunity for teen parents in an “at-risk” environment to decrease the likelihood of violence occurring both in and outside the home. In addition, the program works to prevent violence continuing with the next generation. Successfully completing the program enables parents to:

  • Communicate, solve problems, and manage conflict at home and in the community
  • Identify laws that govern, protect, and strengthen the family
  • Analyze and determine non-abusive methods of discipline
  • Access community resources aimed at strengthening families.
