College-Level Examination Program (CLEP)
Educational Programs & Services > Cresson Secure Treatment Unit

CLEP exams enable people who have learned college-level material outside the usual educational settings exempt themselves from taking certain college courses. The 34 exams offered in the College-Level Examination Program cover material that is taught in introductory-level courses. College faculties periodically review the exams to ensure that they cover pertinent material taught in their courses. CLEP exams are administered at over 1,400 colleges, universities, and institutions and nearly 3,000 colleges and universities award college credit to those who obtain the required scores on the exams.

The CLEP Education Program at CSTU was instituted in the 2000-2001 school year. Those students who either possess a high school diploma or a GED may apply to further their educational studies on a post-secondary level. Candidates for the CSTU CLEP Education Program must first participate in a pre-CLEP orientation meeting with the CLEP Coordinator to review all policies and procedures for staying in the program. Also, interested candidates must read and sign a CSTU CLEP Student Contract. The Cresson Secure Treatment Unit/Appalachia IU08 facility is an official CLEP testing center.
